The college will strive to keep the cost of attaining a college degree
to the minimum. Its free tuition plan will include all books and course
materials needed for the successful completion of courses. When available,
an online catalog will detail these features.
Prospective students may complete their studies from virtually any
walk of life. There will be no substantial tuition costs, and only
minimal residency expenses. The curriculum and material to be covered
will be equivalent to college programs; the courses will use standard
college-level texts and the latest instructional technologies. All
programs will be duly accredited as they follow standards established
by the world's leading educational organizations.
It will provide its students with a comprehensive opportunity in the
arts, communications, and public information, within the structure
and context of an enlightened liberal education.
The institute will distinguish itself as a commuter institution whose
students reflect the economic, cultural, and educational diversity
of contemporary Jamaica. In addition, the institute will be integrated
into the Jamaican culture through its involvement in the parish of
Trelawny and Jamaica in general.
Bob Marley School for the Arts Institute will offer students the unique
opportunity to obtain a practical education while taking advantage
of the wealth of resources which will be available to them. While creativity
in the performing, visual and communication arts will be emphasized,
the institute and its staff will work diligently to see the marketability
of the artist and their work to fruition.
In time, it is expected that the Institute will be the largest private,
independent 4-year college in Jamaica.
The Institute will reflect a spirit of affection, respect, artistic
freedom and social concern, while creating a new approach to liberal
arts education. Ideally, the institution will attract the student who
seeks an alternative to the stringent (and often restrictive) conventional
college and university environment.
When in operation, Bob Marley School for the Arts Institute will allow
creativity and the development of new ideas to continue on an ongoing
basis.
All students will enjoy a 'hands-on' environment in which to discover
and augment their talents. Unlike some facilities where students are
pitted one against another, the Institute will foster an environment
in which students come to respect each other both as artists and individuals.
Students will be given every opportunity to explore and express their
creativity through the use of state-of-the-art equipment, venues and
exhibitions. However, because the creative process is a very personal
effort, it will be the responsibility of students to make full use
of available opportunities. In that way, they will be jointly responsible
with faculty and staff in creating an environment that serves their
artistic and educational needs.
In any contest, there can be only one winner. The Bob Marley School
for the Arts Institute, a duly registered non-profit non-government
organization (NGO), is clearly a winner for tomorrow's people of Jamaica
- homeland of the Hon. Robert Nesta Marley.
We need your blessings and professional help in all phases of its development.
Our goal is to develop a theme park that will be totally operated by
students, and a faculty body from all over the world. This will make
a difference in significantly reducing illiteracy in our country. In
Bob Marley's own words, "If children learn to use their hands and their
minds, they will be competitive in tomorrow's world."
The Bob Marley School for the Arts Institute will be an undergraduate
and graduate college whose principal commitment will be to provide
a comprehensive opportunity in the arts, communications and public
information for more than 4,000 students within the context of enlightened
liberal education.
The Institute's intent is to educate students who will communicate
creatively and shape the public's perceptions of issues and events
and who will author the culture of their times. A section of the 200-acre
location will be devoted to a 25,000-seat theater - the Bob Marley
Amphitheatre, with its audience enjoying daily, year-round entertainment
provided by its over 4,000 tuition-free students, friends and world-renown
Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, of which Bob Marley is an inductee.
We know that if Friends of Bob Marley join the Bob Marley Foundation
and become affiliated with the Bob Marley School for the Arts Institute,
the highest standards will be assured in this magnificent project.
